Easily the most disturbing thing I’ve ever seen in the Gulf of Mexico While diving the Helldivers Rodeo this past June we stumbled upon a massive fish kill. Thousands of Red Snapper and other fish species floating dead after an apparent decommissioning of an oil platform. The video does not do it justice. As far as you could see in almost any direction, you could little specks drifting with the current. The worst part is that this is happening at an alarming rate. Almost daily, the platforms off of the coast of Louisiana and other states are being removed below the mud. There are alternatives such as cutting the rigs at a safe level below the surface and tipping them over, leaving the “reef” essentially in its place. However, oil money and politics have over-powered any true attempts at conservation. Why have conservation and regulations at all while oil companies are getting away with this daily? If nothing changes our local fishery and seafood economy will suffer This video has already made it to the nations capital but was turned down bc there is “nothing that can be done with that much money involved”. But in my opinion, something can be done and needs to be done or this will continue until there’s nothing left on our coast I don’t normally post serious stuff but I feel like most people don’t know what’s happening and that’s the way “they” want it. So share this if you like seafood and dislike greedy corporations
