Guten tag! We have two Telefunken V76 preamps in fantastic condition. They sound just like the plug in 😎 Today we’re running a Neumann SM69 stereo mic through them for a close-room sound on the drums. We’re blowing out the input stage a bit, which brings out more of the room ambience. This also compresses the signal and adds some low-midrange heft. The V76 descended as a sonic improvement of the V72, which had a fixed gain of 34 dB and was originally crafted for broadcast purposes in Hamburg circa 1949-1952. It was a staple for 1960’s pop music and is coveted among engineers in the present day!
