Aside from the need to raise our voices and share our stories to empower others and build awareness, why do we keep talking about journaling? Journaling is an amazing tool at all stages of life, but especially during menopause so what are some of the reasons why we advocate that you journal during midlife? It helps to improve memory. - Studies have shown that writing about your experiences helps with memory retention. And exercising that cognitive muscle can only be a good thing for our brain health. It’s a great tool for self improvement. - writing about our feelings, goals, thoughts and desires is a great way to look back and reflect on where we have come from, where we want to go and how to get there. As well as being useful in illustrating any emotional or behavioural patterns that may show up along the way. To recognise what is working for us and what perhaps we can improve upon. It helps to create clarity. - by writing down your thoughts and feelings on a topic you can organise them, essentially decluttering your mind, breaking them down into pieces that are easier for you to process emotionally. It’s relaxing. - writing freely and expressively can be a wonderful relaxation tool, and a soothing way to deal with the stress of daily life if you make it part of your routine. It’s healing. - the university of Nottingham conducted a study that shows expressive writing can also ease the symptoms of ailments like asthma, rheumatoid arthritis and irritable bowel syndrome, amongst other illnesses, accelerating the healing process.
