No tree here yet, but my darling Dad’s favourite Christmas song (heart-wrenchingly lovely) and the festive mantel are out. Not sure which I like more. Am very taken with the vast hydrangeas And call off the search, for I have found the perfect festive frock. There’s something gorgeously nostalgic about its soft tartan check. It reminds me of Little Women, falling snow, children with their faces pressed up against shop windows (I used to do this with my local - long gone - toy shop), satsumas in the toe of a Christmas stocking, and twinkling lights and the distant toll of church bells.
