I had to jump on the bandwagon and see if i could find out new fun facts re FRIENDS or how much of Matthew Perry we were seeing in the bodysuit of Chandler Bing.
Honestly - i was rather disappointed. The memoir reads like the rant in Matthew Perry’s personal diary in the sense that it is rather incoherent and has a jumpy timeline.
His honesty is well refreshing and appreciated, but that’s as far as it goes. It feels like the editing team did zero work on this, and they could’ve helped him out to make this more of a cohesive read.
The book was repetitive, and involved a lot of name dropping I don’t really care about. Hearing all about how scandalous it was gonna be and how the FRIENDS crew were unhappy about what will be shared in the memoir, i was looking forward to find out the tea being spilled.
It wasn’t worth the almost 300 pages of page-flipping, i gotta say. 90% of the memoir was about him battling addiction and reflecting on his life and fears.
I did get some nuggets on how his weight would fluctuate due to alcohol binge-ing and drug addiction, and it made me compare Chandler on the final episode of season 6 and first episode of season 7, and that was about it.
There are plenty of bullet point articles going around summarizing what Matthew Perry uncovered in this memoir. Just read those articles and don’t bother with the book.
