Today is my grandparents 72nd anniversary. 72 years!!!!! This is one of my favorite photos of them, and they honestly don’t look that different now (and still sit like this on the sofa). I talked to my grandma today and had a long conversation about marriage and life and she said “you know, I would do it all again. We’ve had a good good life. We never fought or crabbed. We called each other names sometimes, and stayed up until 3am working it out, but we never went to bed mad.” My grandpa is ornery as hell, but he’s also a teddy bear - and my grandma is a gentle rock in the family with so much sass, a sense of self, and a great (occasionally crass) sense of humor. She knows the deepest secrets of each and every grandkid. They’ve given birth to 8 children, lost one at childbirth, one in an accident, and one to cancer. They’ve lost a grandchild to complications from AIDS. They’ve witnessed their family through all the ups and downs. They’ve taken in so many people as their own family. They host family breakfast every Sunday and an epic Christmas Eve in their living room every year. If you’ve ever eaten a meal at their home with me, you’re welcomed in for life. They’re directly responsible for over 60 family members - kids, grandkids, great grandkids, and as the child of divorced parents, to witness this kind of strength and resilience and sense of humor and enduring love has been such a gift. When Eric and I were going through our hardest times, they had the best advice to keep going, that it’s worth it, and I am so grateful for that advice every single day. Cheers to Roman and @virginiaohnemus - thanks for leading the way! Also - two posts in one day and two non work related posts in a week! Who am I? (Also I recently learned that the song Stardust is the first song they danced to, and ironically, it’s a very important song for Eric and I too)
