RIP Brilliant Issey Miyake. Seen here having a laugh with Grace Jones, photographed by Eiko Ishioka in 1976. Although I knew his work, mostly through his amazing collaboration with Irving Penn, and had been on jobs shooting his clothes, I never really understood his philosophy and the scope of his research and design until I saw the exhibition ‘The Work of Issey Miyake’ at the National Art Centre in Tokyo in 2016 and got my mind thoroughly blown. His ‘Monozukuri’ (Way of making things) led him to all sorts of innovative new fabric technologies as well as a profound appreciation of traditional Japanese textiles and techniques. Cheers boss, beautiful work! 👍🏼@isseymiyakeofficial
