Ever heard of Amazonian black chili sauce? Also known as “Neapia”, it is the keystone of the Indigenous Siekopai people’s gastronomy!
Siekopai women have been the guardians of their people’s ancestral knowledge in the Amazon rainforest since time immemorial, and in recent years, they have been cooking up an exciting project to promote Siekopai culture and gastronomy all while strengthening women’s leadership in one of the regions hardest hit by extractivism. After founding the women’s association “Siekonomi", Siekopai women are now taking their products to market and supporting their communities to develop economic alternatives to the destructive industries that threaten the Amazon and their way of life.
🌿We are proud to support the efforts of women-led organizations like Siekonomi across the Upper Amazon, in partnership with our sister organization @alianzaceibo .
👉Be sure to follow “Siekonomi” via Facebook & @mujeresdecolores.ec to see more work by these incredible women!
