Fir, Spruce, Pine - OH MY! 🌲 Winter time ❄️ and conifers - just go together! But, do you know the difference between a Fir and a Pine?!
💭 When I was younger, I would call every evergreen a Pine tree - and I’m sure I’m not alone in this!
📸 As a Landscape Photographer, I am creating art with conifers each year (seen above) and I am learning more with each photo about these evergreens that we love so much during this time of the year in the northern hemisphere!
⬇️ Here are some tips on how you can identify them when you’re in nature ⬇️
🌲 Fir - Flat, short needles that bend easily! Balsam fir (one variety) can survive for over 200 years and has the strongest fragrant of the species.
🌲Pine - Long, skinny needles that have bundles of needles rather than broad needles. These trees produce seed cones and there is over 120 species worldwide!
🌲Spruce - Sharply pointed, square, east to fill between fingers needles and some species are grown as Christmas 🎄 trees!
Do you have any more interesting facts about those evergreen species? ⬇️ Comment below!
