Grateful to see my lab’s work included in the AO/AAP Consensus Guidelines on the management of peri-implant diseases at @aaperiojournals After years of studies, debates, and late nights in the lab, it’s humbling to know that our collective effort helped shape parts of the evidence base guiding implant care today. When you spend time in research sometimes it’s a lonely journey with doubt about whether the work we do really matters in practice. Our research showed that not all cleaning tools are created equal and that protecting the titanium surface is just as important as removing the biofilm. This is the first time a major organization @amer_acad_perio embraces the importance of maintaining Titanium surface integrity during implant cleaning. Sometimes, what we don’t add (like harsh chemicals, chlorhexidine or aggressive brushes) matters just as much as what we do. This new consensus is truly an evidence-based approach that highlights both biofilm removal and implant surface preservation. Seeing that reflected in official guidelines feels like a powerful affirmation of the vision for translational, patient-centered, and biologically mindful care.
