We are proud to announce the launch of Oshki Wupoowane The Blanket Fund, in partnership with Hudson’s Bay Foundation. Moving forward, 100% of net proceeds from the sale of all HBC Point Blankets will go to Indigenous Peoples, with DWF directly administering the funding through grants. Offered through two different grant streams, the first stream will focus on capacity-building grants for grassroots Indigenous-led initiatives and organizations, and the second will support Indigenous individuals undertaking reconciliation actions in communities throughout the country. As expressed by @hudsonsbay, the HBC Point Blanket has been called many things throughout its history: an essential trade item, an emblem of Canada, a carrier of disease, and a symbol of colonialism. Acknowledging the many layers of symbolism that the blanket embodies is an integral part of their truth and reconciliation journey.
