Earlier this month, the UK’s Lionesses celebrated a historic win. Along with joy, the win also brought about a vital conversation around the lack of diversity on the team, pointing to larger systemic inequities. We want to take this moment to show some #EcoLove to an organisation using sports to reduce these same inequities in a beautiful way. @streetleagueuk is a local UK NGO on a mission to use the power of sports to tackle poverty and give young people opportunities to succeed in life and the workplace. Street League supports young people aged 14-30 from lower socio-economic backgrounds, engaging them in structured football, dance, fitness, and education programmes as a means to help them find jobs, training and access formal education. "The team wasn’t very diverse, but it’s also because it hasn’t been as accessible a career for young female POC or people from lower socio-economic backgrounds," said @ecoage's Communications Manager Amie in her nomination of Street League. "Sport has power; the power to unite people, inspire change, create hope, and break down racial and gender barriers."
