What is a carbon footprint? Was it highjacked by the fossil fuel industry or was it popularized by them? Poor people are not the problem. There is often a racist, classist myth that poor people pollute the planet the more than the rich. The wealthiest 10% of the global population contributed to nearly half of global emissions between 1990s and 2015. The richest 1% were responsible for more than double the emissions of the 3.1 billion people that make up the poorest half of humanity. In my latest YouTube video we go in to talk about carbon footprints and discussing the nuances of them. While carbon footprints are often talked about in sustainability spaces, they are not true indicators of our true impact. The truth is that it has become so hyper fixated on the individual that it forgets to talk about the impact industries have.
