You don’t want to miss this time-based installation 🌱🐛🍃 • All in Time, 2022 Palms, rebar, rotisserie motor, concrete, marigolds, wax, soda cans, Spanish moss, Magnolia seed pod • “As generations progress farther and farther (in both time and distance) from the origin of the myth, differing perspectives are added and the entire story becomes “abstracted” from truth. This abstraction can be seen in the whirlpool of palm fronds that occupies the center of the gallery. Susan’s figure, Maria’s mother, slowly emerges from the whirlpool which is simultaneously pulling her back in, like the history that exists in any immigrant’s life, the past has a strong current. If their family history is the swirl of narratives in the whirlpool then standing on dry ground, looking in is a privileged position to be in, as an American child of immigrants.
