𝑺𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝑷𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒕 closes this weekend—hope to see you at @oygprojects this Thursday (from 6 to 8 pm) for our zine launch and poetry reading by the amazing @ramyaramana 📝 In honor of tonight’s Harvest Moon, don’t miss these incredible oil paintings by @oliviacjia ✨🌕✨ Hovering between memory and dream, Olivia Jia’s 𝑮𝒍𝒂𝒛𝒆𝒅 𝒖𝒓𝒏, 𝒎𝒐𝒐𝒏𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒆 and 𝑼𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒕𝒍𝒆𝒅 (𝒂𝒍𝒃𝒖𝒎) inhabit the threshold of night, when stillness invites reflection. Employing her signature “nocturnal” palette, both paintings present trompe l’oeil arrangements of ephemera drawn from art history, personal memory, and cultural heritage—forming a layered archive of references spanning centuries. Her work is influenced by Chinese bird-and-flower painting, Audubon illustrations, and Whistler’s Nocturnes, among others. Informed by her diasporic experience as the daughter of Chinese immigrants to the United States, Jia approaches painting as a vessel for gathering and reshaping time, allowing familial, cultural, and imagined histories to meet within a single, contemplative frame.
