This is a photograph of Queen Elizabeth II and @annieleibovitz enjoying a walk in the gardens of Windsor on March 29, 2016. As the duo strode ahead, my colleagues and I trailed behind, alongside a few of the Queen’s beloved corgis 🐾. I’ve spent many years trying to keep up with Annie, and it was wonderful to see her with a companion who could outpace her, the two of them dashing off ahead of everyone else. I couldn’t resist secretly capturing the moment, which Annie didn’t know I had done until I shared it with her yesterday upon noting her sadness at the news of the Queen’s passing. It seemed to lift her spirits and spark some lovely remembrances, which she in turn shared with Vogue, of that extraordinary day at Windsor.
