I remember all my phases of maryjanes. Beginning with my first shiny patent pair, as a 6 year old girl. I wanted to wear them everywhere, so I wore them to the zoo too, and I remember when my dad lifted me up to sit on the ledge of the penguin tank, the right shoe slipped off my foot and plopped into the water. Everyone laughed, and I was mortified. I watched a zookeeper use a long net to fish out my wet shoe while the penguins happily swam around it, and never forgot that moment. I loved the chunky soled Doc Marten maryjanes in the 90’s, and had a favorite pair from @esprit that I wore with everything. Especially floral skirts and dresses. Core memories.
