Excuse my wide open face but now that I’m back from my less than 24 hour jaunt in Chicago, I am feeling so blessed. I had the opportunity to facilitate “ Business of Texture” for the Summit Salon Team this morning. We worked through some hard questions as it pertains to race vs texture and I just have to say how moved I am at the honesty of the audience. As a people we need to take the time to learn for ourselves, to grow in the things that make a difference, and to understand beauty is so much more than what we look like. Our voice as hairdressers is so much larger than we think. The amount of people we can touch has an impact so much more profound than we are aware of. If we can shift the dialogue beyond race and beyond gender and make people feel included no matter who they are, imagine the world we can create. I got an email on my way to the airport that read “ a lot of people would agree you were our most impactful speaker. “ I’m so filled with gratitude to have had this experience. I’m so filled with gratitude to be part of change.
