Everyone at Faith was shocked & saddened to hear of the passing of Mark Ward this week, a regular face at all the best London parties and a bona fide friend of Faith.
The many heartfelt tributes that followed from our community are a sign of the love for Mark who really was one the good ones.
Here Faith writer and friend of Mark's @john_matthews gives his own tribute.
I first met Mark at a Boys Own party in Wapping. I found myself dancing next to a slender, bald headed chap whose immaculately groomed white beard and infectious smile distinguished him from the rest of the crowd.
I complimented Mark on the pristine dark blue suit he was wearing. When he replied Comme Des Garcons I knew I was talking to a serious fashionista but without any snobbery or aloofness that is often associated with the term.
Our friendship flourished and our conversations revealed similar interests in music, art, clothes, film and all things club culture.
We often met pre club and on many occasions we would carry the night into the next day as Mark proved himself to be the king of the afters.
Mark was always impeccably turned out and as many people have commented, he always smelled fantastic.
In addition to meeting up at weekends Mark and I would get together midweek to attend gigs and this is where I got to know him best and where his warmth and generosity really shone through.
Mark was never a great traveller but in 2020 we managed to persuade him to come to the Convenanza festival, as he was a huge lover of ALFOS. Unfortunately COVID put paid to that trip, I was really looking forward to getting to know him even better.
Despite his friendly outgoing persona, Mark was a deeply private man. I once stumbled across a pic on Instagram of Mark on a catwalk modeling for a young upcoming fashion designer and couldn’t believe it was him or that he hadn’t mentioned it to anyone. Mark then revealed that he’d been involved with numerous modeling assignments, one recently in the V&A museum- a big surprise.
He is a huge loss for our scene and dance floors will never again be the same without his cheeky smile.
RIP Mark
