“A Harp in the Head,” my first published short story ever, is out now. “Short story” may not be accurate, though. Google tells me that what I’ve written, due to the length, is really called a “novelette.” I like the way that sounds, so let’s go with that. This novelette symbolizes my foray into shorter works of fiction; something I’ve tried in the past, but never felt like I really had a good hold of it. But when @underwaternewyork––an organization dedicated to archiving objects found in New York waterways and sharing waterway-focused art––reached out and asked if I’d write for their upcoming issue, I saw it as a way for me to grow as a writer, and said yes. You can access both the full story and the oral history interview we did via links in my bio.⠀

I’d wanted to commission some splashy art to go along with the piece, but couldn’t get it in time, so here’s an unrelated photo of my parents a few days after they got married. August 1979. They couldn’t go on a honeymoon because my mother had to get back to England to finish her studies, and my dad stayed in New York, but before she left, they took a ferry to the Statue of Liberty along with my aunts. There’s something so beautiful about simple celebrations, where who you’re with is more important than what you do. And ice cream with your loved one is enough to make you smile wider than you ever had before. I bet my mom didn’t know she was about to pop out five boys, but still lol.⠀

I thank all in advance who take the time to read “A Harp in the Head.” Love.
