Lidia Thorpe called Queen Elizabeth II "colonising" while she was sworn in at the Australian Parliament. The term refers to the fact that Australia, part of the Commonwealth and constitutional monarchy whose sovereign is precisely Elizabeth II, was a British colony for more than 100 years. In those decades, thousands of Australian Aborigines were driven from their lands or killed, also, according to the Guardian, with the "active involvement" of government forces.
