I used to be so insecure about my asymmetrical features, I even remember a conversation with my aesthetician about what to do with my lip (if you haven’t noticed one of the sides goes up when I speak) and I remember her recommending me botox as an option and then she said something that completely changed my perspective about my so called “flaws”. She said to me that how my lip goes up is a signature feature of my face, it’s my character and it’s who I am and that I should keep it the way it was. Cliché you may say, but when you actually feel this, being processed in your brain, it hits completely different.
When I left the center, I was the happiest and the most comfortable in my skin, it felt like a epiphany, the time when I truly loved myself.
The reason why I loved this woman so much wasn’t because she made me fall in love my flaws but how she had planted this spirit in me, the spirit of reminding people that their flaws are actually what makes them unique and beautiful.
Every time someone complains about their skin aging or scars or even minor flaws, I always tell them what my esthetician told me, and almost always, I can feel the person’s switch on the face, they stop for a moment and think, feeling inspired and love for the first time.
We should be pro individualism, not only in social matters but in beauty too. I truly believe that beauty is measured by how comfortable and loving you are in your body.
Just a reminder to love.
