You can't be an environmentalist if you _____ (fill in the blank). The popularized environmental movement in the media indeed has it almost as if we are competing to talk about the prescribed green lifestyles that we attach ourselves to without digging deeper into the real questions that we should be exploring. While I've seen these introductory statements online, I have thought about how we can reword them to build a more profound sense of education rather than trying to shut down one another. No one is perfect, which we all know and sometimes the actions we commit can counter the beliefs put out there. I don't know everything about the impacts of certain lifestyles but what I do not stand for is the continued interrogation of one's life and their commitment to saving the planet when it comes to these types of values. I assume that you all have read my work to know that I do advocate for specific values that are deeply personal to me, but when it comes to other topics that I'm not familiar with, I'm open to exploring them. I wrote down some notes on the other slides exploring my thought process. An interrogation is a tool used to decimate and hinder one's exploration of the issue. I use education as my tool to help people further push the narratives or shaping of their understanding of the issue. I'm not saying that these statements are wrong or right, but instead, I need a continued addition of nuance to help me understand my thought process. When I receive side-eye comments on my posts, I no longer want to engage because it shows me that they didn't bother to read my post or what I'm trying to communicate. Anyways, I hope these types of notes help you in your journey. Consider rebalancing your energy if you spend more energy pressuring people than the corporations and systems that got us into that place.
