"For a long time, I'd been so focussed on my relationship with others in a work context, that I gradually forgot about my relationship with myself. So this past May, I picked up cooking as a means of introspection, to kind of find a way to get along with myself," Jing tells VOGUE+. "I enjoy watching people sharing their meals on social platforms, testing out some relatively straightforward cooking tutorials. I have to say, I do have a knack for it - I like collecting recipes, perfecting them, making them for others later." Jing credits his mother with instilling in him a love for food as a means of building community and sharing with others. "Whenever my mother used to cook something for me or for others, it was always about how the receivor felt. She was always keen to know how we liked it, whether it tasted good. I used to be so impatient to receive her cooking, but now that I've really started to take cooking seriously, I've realised that sharing one's cooking is its own kind of love.
