This is an early test of Lola. We built the machine with the images playing on the screen so that we could eschew digital post production trickery and do everything in camera. The design was inspired by how two sisters in the 1940s might have gone about building a machine that could pick up TV broadcasts from the future - materials sourced from wirelesses and tellies from the time, a rigid steel frame construction to contain all the powerful hardware the women need to intercept these future broadcasts and the centre piece - a rather lovely cathode ray tube made by a glass blower in Dublin. The machine was designed by Jack Phelan @halfdaft and built by Rob Clarke. The production designer was @ferdia.murphy @filmfestlocarno @screenireland
