BWP member Taylor Simone (@goldentimetay) recently took a visit to @neworleansmuseumofart to view the new exhibition “Called to the camera: Black American Studio Photographers” showcasing the artistic, social, and political impact of Black photographers. Here is what that visit sparked for her: “you’d probably be very surprised to hear that even though i’ve been super busy shooting, i also feel pretty disconnected from the “label” photographer right now. some days i love it, while some days i want to run away from it completely. two feelings can exist at once. my heart longs to be free and create in all of the ways that i desire. i’m learning to let it. sharing this to say that when those emotions come up, i feel them. i let them exist. i give them space. it’s important. after i feel my feelings, i then find ways to get inspired again, like going to the museum to see these works. doing this reminds me to keep going. it reminds me that i give myself permission to do all the creative things that i want, the way that i want to. i go my own way and i follow my own path. while i’m still figuring out ultimately all the ways that i want to express myself creatively through photography as well as other mediums, i remember that the options are infinitely abundant. my story as an artist has so much more room to grow and i’m blessed to be writing the page day by day. there’s never a reason to limit myself.” 👏🏾✨ #blackwomenphotographers #hireblackwomenphotographers
