The physicist, Max Planck, once posited that "an experiment is a question, which science poses to Nature, and a measurement is the recording of Nature’s answer." Since 2012, SOI has welcomed 1,000+ scientists on nearly 80 expeditions to measure Nature's answers to questions from nearly every discipline imaginable. With the refit of our new research vessel, Falkor (too), we hope to bring seagoing opportunities to underrepresented, historically marginalized, and local scientists worldwide while investing in technology that supports transformative deep sea research, so that impactful ocean science can be undertaken in support of the goals of the @unoceandecade.
