Reposted from @thelegendsofmusic Link Wray playing “Rumble” Live on the 19th of November, 1974 at the Winterland in San Fransisco, CAThere’s an age old legend that Link Wray singlehandedly took the legend of the “Power Chord” and made it commercially relevant to an entire generation of people worldwide through his signature recording “Rumble”. While critics and historians may dispute this claim and think otherwise, there’s no denying that chords importance in music today thanks to him. As a guitarist, Link’s playing paved the way for music to be much more rowdier and loud by channeling the importance of one single element: the power chord. However, that’s not all he’s memorable for. He fused the importance of this one single chord, with another element that the music industry hadn’t cracked back then. This was distortion! He fused both these elements together and created something that now stands the test of time. iiii]; ) '
