This may seem like a very “nit picky” parenting suggestion but I PROMISE it makes a difference!
When we use questions to tell our kids what to do, it often leads them to feeling confused. 😵💫 they are unsure which questions they are allowed to say “no” to and which ones they need to say “yes” (or they might be in trouble!)
And that guessing games is NOT fair at all.
Kids also learn to cherry pick the questions they want to say “yes” to...which leaves parents frustrated and thinking “WHY DON’T THEY LISTEN?!”
So...make it clear when you are giving a command (“It’s time to go. Put on your shoes!) versus giving a choice (“Do you want to play outside? If you do, put on your shoes!”). This will help clear up confusion in communication and help your child better learn to listen.
