Pillow Chocolates and Arsenic, series of 4 12x16 framed prints, handmade book and poem.
These images were made throughout January 2022 to show the extremes of the impact of empty houses in Cornish coastal towns in the winter. All the photographs were taken between 6 and 9pm and no efforts of deception were carried out to make the images look more empty.
The scenes are lit by street lamps and the full Moon. On the 17th of January a wolf moon occurred. The old idiom of the wolf at the door meaning ‘someone or something is facing imminent financial ruin or difficulty’. This metaphor I didn’t plan for but seemed fitting to include.
The work was exhibited at Grays Wharf Gallery in Penryn as part of Brick by Brick, a show confronting the housing crisis in Cornwall.
