We had a special guest pop in to say hello at our Poplar Depot, Hugh Grosvenor, The Duke of Westminster, who met with our CEO Charlotte Hill to learn more about what we do and who we help here at the The Felix Project. He toured the depot learning about all the incredible surplus food we rescue & redistribute as well as the nutritious and delicious meals we make in our kitchen. The visit coincided with the announcement that The Westminster Foundation, will provide £1million to charities helping children and their families through the cost-of-living crisis this winter. As the Office for National Statistics recently reported, that four out of 10 families with school age children have already cut back on food, the Westminster Foundation hopes that £1 million will help fund 25,000 family food parcels or 45,000 individual food parcels, which would typically provide meals for three days. And The Felix Project is the first recipient, with a grant of £100,000 from the emergency fund, with The Duke of Westminster saying, “We know that households are facing impossible choices this winter between heating or eating. Organisations like The Felix Project provide a lifeline to so many families forced to skip meals to cover other financial demands. I hope this funding alongside our grants to other similar charities will help people, and children in particular, have access to healthy food when they need it most.” According to the Office of National Statistics, four out of 10 families with school age children have already cut back on food and the true impact of the #CostofLivingCrisis hasn't even been measured yet, so generous funding like this is imperative to help Londoners. We are beyond thankful for the generous grant and we will put it to good use feeding people in need.
