I had a fun time yesterday romping up the ultra-classic Frendo Spur. Even though it is only mid June, there is unfortunately already a lot of hard ice on the upper portion to swing and kick into. Perhaps that is just the new normal. Despite the sad conditions, it’s still a great route. I had done it ropeless once before (but six years ago), climbing entirely in boots, and remembered it feeling near the limit of comfort for free-soloing. For that reason, yesterday I brought a rope and some gear, just in case I needed to get myself out of a sticky situation. However, I also brought rock shoes, which made it all feel much easier than in boots, and made the safety gear feel quite superfluous. @patagonia_climb @petzl_official @scarpaspa @totemmt
