Seabed Mining Banned in California Waters 🌊🐠 The Surfrider Foundation is excited to announce a historic victory as the California Seabed Mining Prevention Act was signed into law, protecting California’s interconnected coastal and ocean environment from harmful seabed mining. Surfrider joined Monterey Bay Aquarium (@montereybayaquarium) and Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis (@eleniforca) in co-sponsoring the legislation, and advocating for its passage. Seabed mining along the West Coast could significantly damage marine and coastal habitats, fisheries, marine wildlife, and the communities and tribal nations that depend on them. California has joined Washington and Oregon in banning seabed mining in its waters, setting an example for nations around the world seeking to prevent this extremely destructive practice.
