Navajo Flutes North America⁠ - The Navajo flutes are traditionaly played by men to court women. The men take turns playing and then the woman makes her choice of which husband she would like. Each suitor goes out in search of the wood and crafts his own flute. When these flutes are played they create an echo that hypnotizes the mind, literally charming you. These flutes are very simple, with a block used as a whistle that can be regulated with the hand, and they are shaped like animals, a bird, bear, seal, to represent the totem animal of the family concerned.⁠ JJ: These flutes are copies made by a French craftsman for use in a play for the Theatre du Soleil.
