Let's talk about carrots. 13 tonnes of carrots actually. That's how much we received in our Poplar Depot this week. To put that in perspective, that's the weight of 3 hippopotamuses! Carrots are one of the staple vegetables we get a lot of and one of the items we all let hang around in our fridge for too long. You know what we're talking about. They've turned a bit hairy and little limp? But don't worry and don't throw them out. You can save them very easily. Just give them a peel. Top and tail the carrots. Then slice them lengthwise. Toss them in a resealable container. Fill with water, cover, and slide them back in your fridge. They'll regain some of their firmness and be ready to eat have they've chilled out overnight. With the #CostofLivingCrisis we have to use as much as we can and waste less. Little things like this can save tonnes of food of year, save money and help fight climate change. Do you have any food saving hacks or tips? And how many carrots do you think a hippopotamus could eat? Drop us a comment. #foodrescue #foodhacks #foodtips #colc #thefelixproject #climatechange #london #foodwaste
