As an athlete and native New Yorker, it surprises many that I’ve never competed in my hometown marathon. However, it shouldn’t be a surprise that the one thing that triumphs running, is my family. When your kid’s birthday always falls on Marathon day, the choice not to race on this day is simple. Over my career she’s watched me train and race countless times, so I always promised her I’d never race on her birthday. Thinking though of giving it a shot next year, in her honor.
