Down here in Cornwall, autumn is moving in. It’s tangible today: the sun is lower, turning every leaf into stained glass. The sea has turned dark. A restless wind ruffles the trees. Even the air smells different. The long, hot summer is over. There is relief. This morning, one of my retreat guests asked if we might light the open fire in our gathering space, and so we did. We’ve been taking it in turns to tend it ever since. It’s beautiful to be working through a process of change and to have the season change alongside is. A wind is blowing through our barn, cleaning all the stale summer air, ushering in the cold season.
