The island of Naoshima is something of an experiment at the intersection of art, architecture and Nature. Japanese architect Tadao Ando worked to build a world-class museum and hotel without disrupting the natural beauty of the island. So he built it underground, blending seamlessly with the island's topography. The whole place feels like the secret project of some benevolent Bond villain, ruthlessly bent on bringing truth, beauty and goodness back into the world.
