Brightline Update - Florida
As we await the details pertaining to Tampa’s Brightline extension the private inner-city rail company will begin testing trains traveling at 110 miles per hour, likely becoming the fastest train to ever sprint in Florida.
• The most recent update included the SunRail’s governing board approving the shared train corridor that would help push the Tampa extension. An opportunity to launch real estate interest around where the stations and trains will stop is also a big topic of conversation. Ours in particular has been said to run all the way into the Ybor City District.
• In June the US awarded $15.9M for the Tampa-Orlando connection, the grant is set to fund the preliminary engineering for passenger trains on the 67-mile I-4 route. $368M in grants through the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Programs for 46 projects nationally. $8.3M for the Florida Gulf & Atlantic Railroad to replace 70,000 ties, install +/- 14,300 new ties, and 60 at-grade crossings. A reminder: the train ride from Orlando to Tampa is set to take around 45 minutes and the Tampa to Miami connection is planned to be completed by 2028.
