You attract what you are ready for. When Sarah first asked me to run this with her in memory of her brother, Audai, who tragically passed away a year ago, I would only commit to the half marathon because that was as far as I had ever run before. Fear of failure is a constant struggle, but this time, the purpose motivated me more than anything. I was born with severe asthma and always made every excuse there was in order to not run more than I had to. I never thought I would run a marathon in my life (nor did I want to), and now I already can’t wait to sign up for another. I run because it is a privilege those like Christina and Audai no longer have. Through running, I GET to show my nephew that it is possible to overcome what you perceive as the worst thing to happen to you. As @jesssims always says, “life isn’t happening to you, it’s happening for you”. It’s up to you to shift that perspective. That being said, it definitely wasn’t all smooth sailing and there were many setbacks along the way. The lesson is to focus on the process and trust the hard work you put in. Your body is far more capable than your mind tells you it is. Let go of any preconceived notions and just run your pace.
