On this day in 1617 Gustavus Adolphus, The Lion from the North, was crowned King of Sweden. He took the throne at the young age of 17 and he reigned from 1611-1632 with the great statesman, Axel Oxenstierna, as his confidant. The young king inherited three ongoing wars from his father Charles IX and proved himself to be a talented and quick learning military commander.
