until recently, i didn’t have any self portraiture on my website. years ago i was told by the CEO of a photography related business i admired that i should remove anything “too self indulgent” from my site. i’m pretty sure someone with that attitude has never studied or appreciated cindy sherman, or francesca woodman, and certainly remains unaware of nadia lee cohen’s existence. my point is- if you’ve got a camera, turn it on yourself unapologetically. not saying i’m one of them, but: to deny self portraiture as an art form is to deny so many incredible artists.
