A cross-state, Internet friendship began with a photo of a cake. Elisa Sunga, known online as @saltedrye, caught the attention of Christina Tosi’s Milk Bar with a pandemic project bake that saw her making 20 of Tosi’s specialty cakes. But the photo of that project also caught the attention of another baker, Anabelle Brown, who bakes and posts photos of her own confections as @bananabellebrown. Brown reached out to Sunga, and the pair became fast friends. Even though the two haven’t met IRL — Sunga lives in Northern California and Brown lives in Southern California — they’ve formed a baking friendship and founded @bucketlistbakeclub, an online community of bakers that tackle ambitious baking projects together every month. In the months since its inception, the group took on towering croquembouche, pieometry, kouign amann, mooncakes, and more — with photos of the final product shared online via the group’s Instagram account. It’s a sweet friendship that has spread online, all for the love of a good bake. Tap the link in our bio to read more. 📸1&4: Elisa Sunga 📸2-3: Anabelle Brown
