I was equally saddened to hear this week about the death of 24 year old Chris Kaba who was shot dead by police on Monday night in South London without cause. Chris was the second Black man known to have died following contact with the Met police in the past three months. He was due to be married in February, and his fiance has baby on the way that he’s never going to see. I want to live in a country where the life of a 24 year old Black man (a father to be, who had his whole life ahead of him) has the same value as a 96 year old white woman (who by the lottery of heredity and genetic bloodline experienced a life of wealth and privilege and who was and is for many a symbol of historic oppression and violence.) The consequences of Chris Kaba’s death and subsequent pageantry may not cost the country’s GDP an estimated £6bn, but I’m sure his family’s sense of loss, despair and devastation is equally as potent. I won’t be back in London tomorrow but solidarity with all those who will be marching in the pursuit of #JusticeForChrisKaba
