In Spring 2022, MA Fashion Studies and MFA Fashion Design and the Arts students at Parsons Paris had the unique opportunity to work directly with the @Versace team in a collaborative project exploring the idea of dialogues between the works of Gianni and Donatella Versace. After discovering the collaboration and creations by MFA Fashion Design and the Arts students, now find out more about the curating part of this project with the work by our @parsonsparis.fashionstudies students. The exhibition “Gianni Versace: Dialogues de Mode” (1986 at @palaisgalliera) was a key moment in the history of exhibitions about contemporary fashion design in France, as it built a dialogue about fashion design and image making; and more specifically the work of Gianni as designer and Donatella as image-maker. Students started from this exhibition and compared a selection of pieces by Gianni and Donatella Versace around issues of body ideals, materials innovation and heritage making. MA Fashion Studies students elaborated a curatorial project investigating the potential meanings of the pieces, exploring new ways to curate fashion and archives. As part of the collaboration, students learned about the history of the brand from the heritage department in Milan, and visited Versace’s headquarters, factory and archive in Novara. The results of the collaboration were presented in the exhibition “Dialogues de Mode” shown at the @americancenter_paris in May 2022.
