1 in 4 children in New York experience food insecurity (meaning over 462 000!!!). This a 46% increase from pre-pandemic numbers. With rising costs for food, rent and other necessities, food insecurity still remains at an all time high. @onelovecommunityfridge works eradicate hunger, food insecurity, malnutrition, and the stigma associated with all three, through a integrated, multi-generational, and inclusive movement that centers access to fresh foods, nutrition education, and sustainability. We lead with Respect, Dignity and Health. Here are moments from a beautiful packing day with our @gba.family - For Kids By Kids. This was a day for kids and teens of all ages to connect, and feel empowered to make a difference in their own communities. 30 kids and teenagers (along with 25 adults) and packed 266 beautiful bags with fresh foods, necessities and more. Our youngest volunteers play a crucial role in the work we do, from packing and distributing to writing kind messages to our fridge members. Through community building, volunteerism and cooperation, children learn firsthand the power they hold to improve the conditions of their world - an invaluable asset they will carry with them for life.
