Irene Cara really did light up the sky. So many of us who attended “Fame” schools for performing arts were inspired by her. We were all Coco in some way, with talent, verve and confidence for millennia. It was a rite of passage to play a piano bass line to a song and wait for anyone near to hop into a jam session just like her cafeteria scene “Hot Lunch.” We know about her Oscars and accolades, but Irene Cara is unsung for her efforts to secure fair pay for artists.
