In 2019 I started working on some rough ideas pretty much right after “All Hail” was released. Not sure if they would actually become full songs to consider for what would come next or if it was just a way of getting my bearings for when it was time to begin actually creating a record. Thanks to a global pandemic we were forced into a season of exploring creativity and completely abandoning all guidelines of what we thought creating a hard rock or metal record had to fall between. Many of those initial ideas had time to sit under a long period of pressure and form into cornerstones of the album. While others were later created to help complete the overall vision and mood that we wanted the listener to experience when hearing the record in its entirety. Over the course of creating “Deathrattle” I experienced thoughts, feelings, and fears that I never had before. Most of this period of time felt as if the world was working against us and until today I still questioned if it was at times. The release of “Deathrattle” marks the closing of a chapter that nearly snuffed me out as well as my best friends. My contributions to this record are my gift to my brothers Cory, Matt, and Matthew just the same as theirs are the most meaningful gift I’ve ever received. This record is an “I love you” to most, and a “fuck you” to others. Fang to tail, venom in the veins. We meant it.
