My dad gets inducted into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame today. Whenever people ask me who my hero is, I always say “my dad”. Hondo has been my prime example of hard work, showing up for people, and chasing passion. The effort he puts into his family, his friendships, and his job are truly unlike anything else I’ve experienced in my life. He raised us on on a saying that his dad, my grandfather, would always say; “If you find a job you love you’ll never work a day in your life.” I watched it firsthand growing up, and I pay my bills doing what I love because of my dad’s support and example (and mom of course). I could talk about who he is as my DAD all day, but highlighting the years he has dedicated to the state of Georgia and their airwaves is unmatched in my eyes. His brilliance on the microphone is the obvious people’s choice, but the amount of behind the scenes marketing, advertising and deals (that we have all been the audience for by the way) is more than any of us can comprehend. With more stories to tell than I can count, or have ever heard, my dad paints pictures with words better than anyone I’ve ever met. On the surface, it appears that he’s more proud of me than I am of him. But if you’ve ever been with me on a Georgia game day, you know I step away with my AirPods to hear my dad greet our fan base 3.5 hours before kickoff religiously. It’s my absolute favorite thing you do dad, and I can’t wait to hear you kick off your 30th season next weekend.
