let’s try this again•insta deleted the original post• throughout history art/images of trans gnc 2s+ people have been erased, desecrated, or solely through the lens of the cis male gaze• this sculpture means alot to me I have been doing standing nude performances in art contexts for years since coming into my truest self•Galle and Alethia reminded me that as indigenous peoples our ancestors embraced nudity of all forms• It’s important to create my own image thank you @balicehertling @danielebalice @alexanderhertling @baptiste_renoux_francois for making this happen over time •grateful for you trusting me that it needed to exist in a public square in a country who’s conservative side shines throughout• we live in an anti-trans world •genitals do not determine gender chromosomes do not determine gender• I don’t have the money for an artist studio let alone making this public sculpture so I’m grateful• the sculpture coincides with a 5-6 hour performance starting at 4pm on June 18th including a few hours of recreating Ana Mendieta’s Untitled (Rape Scene) nude, while also being nude laying down on a green bed lecturing about my work for a few hours and then draped in only a trans flag and nothing else walking from the space of the performance out into the city square and kissing the bronze sculpture of myself because I think I need to love and be content with myself more•thank you @samuel_leuenberger for inviting me• thank you @galerie_francescapia for flying me out• thank you @galeriebarbaraweiss @hannahhoffmangallery always for your support• title: “A sculpture for Trans Women A sculpture for the Non-Binary Femmes A sculpture for Two-Spirit People • I am a woman.
